Navigating Divergent Institutional Interests Across the Banking Regulatory Landscape

The collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, as well as the other financial institutions that failed during this time, highlights the risks faced by banks with business models serving a concentrated depositor base. Despite the need to consider differences between banks, policymakers may fail to appreciate significant differences between banking institutions and their business models. This Article differentiates banking institutions and discusses how different business models may influence bank enthusiasm and support for particular reforms.
